Woo hoo! Children of Hurin is here

It’s here! I got my copy. Have you got yours?

How awesome is it to have something new from Tolkien? Okay it’s not technically new, but it’s sort of new because the story was only presented in outline in The Silmarillion, but here it is fully fleshed out.

  • My copy is already on its way from Amazon.

Though the other book released on the same day – book three of the Orphans of Choas series by John C. Wright will make me have to throw a coin in the air to determine what to read first.

  • Unfortunately I have to wait until after my move in 2 weeks to get my copy. (I have enough books to move, a good number of which I haven’t read yet!) I can’t wait to read it though.

  • Thanks for the heads up—I hadn’t realized it was released this week.  I’ve already picked it up (Border’s has a solid sale price).

I’m a huge Hobbit and LOTR fan… but one who has still not made it through the Silmarillion.  I’m not sure what stops me.  Could be that I’ve tried to read it right after re-reading LOTR and I’ve just felt it was time to shift gears.

I had hoped to finally tackle it before Hurin came out, but didn’t seem to happen.  Hurin is shorter than I had thought it would be (was kind of picturing a Silm-type book).  Who knows, maybe I’ll reverse course and ride Hurin right through to Silmarillion!  Maybe I’ll get some Zeppelin out and get into the Tolkien vibe.  “‘Twas in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair; but Gollum……”
