If you’re like me you’ve wondered why the Boston Globe has given so much prominence to such a small matter as the Archdiocese of Boston ordering that diocesan functions not take place at a particular parish. For such a small thing—not a pastor’s removal or official sanction or anything like that—the newspaper splashed the story above the fold with a set-piece photo of the pastor. It begins to make sense when you realize that the chief editorial writer for the Globe is a parishioner at said parish. And that said parish has also become the locus of a certain dissident group with delusions of grandeur.
