According to this story, American soldiers have been seen in Jordan. Jordan claims that they’re only providing air defense and training for native troops, but eyewitnesses say they’ve seen plenty of soldiers and tanks covered in canvas. The article speculates that they’re special forces, but if the data at GobalSecurity.org is right, it could be the 2nd Marine Division. (Although when I first reported this on Tuesday, the web site did say Jordan while now it doesn’t. It does say the division is in theater, so where else could it be?) Note that the sources I was checking were right about the 173rd Airborne Brigade being deployed in northern Iraq.
It would be a nice surprise for the Iraqis if they looked west and the 2nd Marine Division was suddenly sitting there.
