I’m with this guy. A California guy has launched the “Committee to Save Merry Christmas.” He wants stores that profit from Christmas shopping, but won’t mention the holiday in their advertising or official statement to change their policies. He’s already targeted Macy’s parent, Federated Department Stores. Showing how lame they are, Federated responds that they have Santa in their parade and play Christmas music in the stores. Santa and non-religious Christmas carols have as much to do with the real meaning of Christmas as pine trees and reindeer.
This is a big pet peeve of mine. Every season I end up annoying a few of my acaemic colleagues cause I use the “merry’ word…….I think we should all buy catholic gifts…..there are so many good places on line….it would help them and make our season holier….and I’d like to see the gifts exchange transfer to the feast of the epiphany like in so many other countries………….sounds like a good grass roots project.
