The execrable South African bishop Reginald Cawcutt is back. Remember Reggie? He’s the bishop who said unspeakable things about Pope John Paul and Cardinal Ratzinger while participating in a web site/mailing list for gay priests.
In 2002, Cawcutt resigned under pressure as auxiliary of Cape Town and spokesman of the South African bishops’ conference. That should have been the end of it, except now the bishop of Cape Town has appointed Cawcutt to head a parish. Those poor people.
Before you leap to Cawcutt’s defense, you might want to read the bishop’s own words when he thought no one else but other gay priests were listening. (WARNING: Very explicit material. Not for the squeamish. And that should tell you everything.)
