A strong and consistent defense of the sanctity of life may do more for ecumenism than all the theological conferences you could imagine. Yet another Protestant minister who is a pro-life advocate has converted to Catholicism. Just think of what it would be like if the Church (including her bishops, priests, and yes, her laypeople) was similarly bold in all areas of the moral life.
Well, it doesn’t do much for ecumenism when others don’t agree on abortion. But it strongly attracts people to God and His moral truth. When you see all sorts of Protestant denominations condone abortion, you know they are lost on a forsaken path.
The strength of the Church in this moral area is a beacon for all Christians who love life.
Sinner makes a good point on ecumenism. Although I thoroughly approve of ecumenism for the sake of drawing Christians together, ecumenism for the sake of ecumenism itself -which is the way it is practiced by far too many – is wrong.
Amen, Dominic, Sinner and Barrister.
