I was just called by my parish and told that the Parish Pastoral Council meeting that was scheduled for tonight is being re-directed to downtown Salem to take part in a “peace rally” organized by the city interfaith council. Even if I wasn’t knee-deep in proofreading the next issue of the magazine, I wouldn’t go and I told the woman who called me so. For one thing, I prefer not to pray alongside witches since they aren’t even remotely praying to God. Nor are the former Unitarians who now call themselves EarthCircle. For another thing, I have a feeling that it will devolve into a criticism of the US policy. I would prefer to attend a “prayer for victory and freedom” rally. I’ll be staying home tonight and praying for my country and Iraq’s people.
