More on Words mean things

Mark Windsor has taken my post on “Words mean things” and expanded on it. He sees what I point out about shifting definitions as a symptom of a bigger disease and wants to start a conversation about the best way to address the problem.

I think part of the problem is that the vast majority of people acquiesce to the desires of a minority who want to shift things, thinking that the minority represents “everyone else.” The majority of the people, who are by inclination, conservative about the institutions of society, are cajoled into going along with the deconstructors by convincing them that they are better people if they go along with changes that they would normally not see as correct. Just look at the way homosexuality has been re-defined by the constant trumpeting in all forms of media as the “greatest of all loves.” You’d think, from the frequency you hear about it, that a third of the population is gay, when in reality it’s more like 1 percent. What do you think? Go to Mark’s site and join the discussion.
