Wow. The Diocese of Orange, California, has paid off its debt from the record-breaking $100 million settlement for sex abuse cases made last year. I guess it’s good to live in the OC.
Of course, it’s obvious that there’s a lot of money in the Diocese of Orange, even among the priests, although it was just last year that the diocese was crying poor mouth and laying off workers.
Yeah, and I hope they laid off a whole lot of dissident types. We’ve got to get them the jobs where they belong somehow. Anyone want fries with that?
I find this to be good news. That a diocese has overcome this large financial burden laid upon them should be a cause for celebration (albeit a very reserved one) as well as breathing a very large sigh of relief. Perhaps this could be an example for other dioceses who have or will have this problem on how to cope. Let’s also hope they will get back on their mission, without this distraction.
