If it’s springtime, graduation means dissenters

Every spring, it’s the same thing. Catholic colleges trot out dissenters from Catholic teaching to give commencement speeches and to receive honorary degrees. Ohio Dominican University has decided to so honor Sr. Joan Chittister this year.

In 2004, the US bishops agreed that Catholic institutions “should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles.  They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.” Nice to see those directives being heeded and bishops cracking down.

So where are the calls for “fraternal correction” on this issue?

  • I guess since she is still a “Sister” then the assumption is:  Her order would deal with her if she was a true dissenter.

The link certainly makes her look like a fine upstanding Catholic Woman Religious.
