Eating and drinking their own condemnation

My appreciation for the cooking of Wolfgang Puck has fallen. The Arnold Schwarzenegger sound-alike celebrity chef who has his own show on the Food Network is also a supporter of Planned Parenthood. For all you LA-LA land residents, take note:

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/—Los Angeles’ best restaurants, caterers, florists and wineries will again gather at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Thursday, March 6, for the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) Guild’s popular Food Fare, the agency’s largest annual Spring fund raiser.

Food Fare organizers transform the Santa Monica Civic’s 27,000 square foot auditorium into a flower-filled bazaar with elaborately decorated food and wine stations and arts and crafts boutiques.  Every Year Food Fare attracts more than 2,000 food enthusiasts and Planned Parenthood supporters to sample everything from Pink’s famous chilidogs to Michael McCarty’s elegant seasonal California Cuisine from his perennially popular restaurant, Michael’s, in Santa Monica.

Some participating restaurants and chefs include Cafe Del Rey with Chef David Ino, Chef Celestino Drago from Drago, Lucques Restaurant with Chef Suzanne Goin, Melisse Restaurant with Josiah Citrin, Michael’s with Michael McCarty, Chef Frank Fronda from Napa Valley Grille, Tommy Tang from Tommy Tang’s, and Wolfgang Puck and Klaus Puck from Vert. In addition to offering great cuisine, Food Fare will feature an “Author’s Corner” with chefs signing their latest books, including Chef Jamie Gwen from KABC Radio signing her “Modern Comforts Cookbook,” Russ Parsons with “How to Read a French Fry,” Martha Rose Shulman with “Best Vegetarian Recipes,” Judy Zeidler with “Gourmet Jewish Cook” and many others. There is also a silent auction with vacation packages, sporting and entertainment event tickets, fine art and crafts from local artists, and gift certificates for L.A.‘s best restaurants. Tickets for Food Fare are $110 for the daytime session (10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.) and $135 for the evening session (6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.) if purchased in advance.  Please call 310-395-0098 for ticket information. Last year’s Food Fare netted more than $350,000 for PPLA.  Food Fare is produced by the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Guild, a group of approximately 200 women who are dedicated to providing financial and volunteer support for PPLA.  Since it was formed 20 years ago, the Guild has raised nearly $4 million for PPLA.

Why can’t I get the image out of my head of a bunch of “beautiful people” shelling out big bucks to hob nob with the rich and famous, eat gourmet food, and buy tschoctkes, all so that the murder of mostly minority and poor children can continue? I wonder how generations of our descendants will look back on us. We look back at the Romans with the vomitariums and home “zoos” of deformed children and are shocked. Yet to many Romans it must have seemed normal. I gather it’s the same way for these people who think it’s perfectly natural to pay $110 and raise $4 million for Planned Parenthood.

I now have a very nice list of cookboks never to buy and restaurants never to patronize if I ever visit LA.
