If Cardinal Law is forced out would that create a domino effect elsewhere? I mean, if Law is guilty of enough to force him to resign, aren’t others like Daily, McCormack, and Banks also guilty of enough to force them out of their dioceses? What about other bishops who also shuffled perverts? Perhaps the reason the Vatican has kept Law hanging on so long is they worry that we’ll have an avalanche of resignations and a crisis of empty sees in this country.
As much as I criticize the current crop of US bishops, the fact is that we need bishops and replacing 2/3 of them could be an impossible and daunting task.
