You didn’t know I was gone, did you? Actually, I went up to my sister’s house in Maine for the weekend, but had to be back today to work. (That’s the thing about working in the Catholic journalism industry; you only get holy days of obligation off.) Anyway, had lots of fun. My brother John brought his family up, too, and I went swimming with my nephews in my sister’s pool. It was chilly but the pool is heated. I watched “Remember the Titans” with my older nephews, who love it. I thought it was a good morality tale about getting beyond your irrational prejudices and seeing others for who they really are, for “the content of their character and not the color of their skin.” We also spent some time going through old family photos, laughing at the way we used to look. I also found some great photos of my mom and dad when they were first married. There’s one I want to scan and post because it is such an emblematic photo.
