The banana’s days may be numbered. That’s right. See, the domestic banana began serving as a food product 10,000 years ago after a mutation of the virtually inedible wild banana. Since almost every banana since then is a virtual clone of the first one, they don’t have the genetic diversity to fight off disease like “black sigatoka” which has become a global epidemic. Scientists say we could see the end of the banana.
We’d all be singing, “Yes, we have no bananas.” But no more Harry Belafonte “Banana Man” song, no more Vaudevillian slipping-on-banana-peel pranks, no more sexual innuendo about bananas in pockets. Can you imagine trying to explain to your grandkids someday what a banana is. Save the Bananas!!!
Okay, I have to get more potassium in the morning. Bananas anyone?
