A Trapp family Christmas, or We Can’t all Live the Sound of Music

A Trapp family Christmas, or We Can’t all Live the Sound of Music

Since it’s still the Christmas season, this essay by Aloise Buckley Heath is not out of place. It’s one of my favorites and could be one of your’s if you enjoy tales of reality slapping idealism in the face.

Specifically, it’s the story of how Mrs. Heath longed to celebrate Christmas in the Trapp family sryle, and how her own family fell somewhat short of the ideal. It’s a hilarious story, even more so if you have a family of any size, because you’ll inevtiably find traces of your family in it.

  • Well, in my stays at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, I can tell you there is one big thing missing from that description of Christmas with the Trapps:

    VEAL!!!

Veal was it!!: weinerschnitzel, and this wonderful veal sauteed with cream in a brown sauce…hmmm..My room had a picture of the older Maria hauling her favorite calf off to die schlaussenhaus for a little schnitzel cutting.
